National Day of Slovenia celebrated in Zagreb

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, National Day of Slovenia celebrated in Zagreb. The celebration was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia  and the SLO-CRO Chamber of Commerce. The event was held in the impressive ambience of the atrium of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and brought together more than 400 guests – members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Slovenian community in Croatia, businessmen from both countries, and numerous members and partners of the SLO-CRO Chamber of Commerce.

During the ceremonial speech at the celebration, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Croatia, Gašper Dovžan, among other things, said:

“On 25 June 1991, the Slovenian Parliament adopted the Fundamental Constitutional Act on the Autonomy and Independence of the Republic of Slovenia, whereby Slovenia assumed sovereign power and recognized the existing borders. This achieved a democratic expression of the will of the people, confirmed by a referendum. The entire process took place in close coordination with Croatia, but there were violent reactions from the then Yugoslav leadership and army, which led to armed conflicts. In Slovenia, they lasted ten days, while Croatia suffered a long and devastating war. The war then spread to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it culminated in the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995. These historical experiences shaped the Slovenian people, who still follow world events with particular sensitivity today. As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Slovenia stands for peace, humanity and respect for international law.

The Ambassador particularly emphasized the close cooperation with the SLO-CRO Chamber of Commerce, of which the Embassy is extremely proud and is happy to support its work and further development.
