The Croatian ICT sector continues to grow

Croatian IT companies are successful in export, but domestic market growth is slower
Positive trends in the Croatian Information and Communication Sector (ICT) continue to grow. It seems that the crisis since the end of the last decade has ended. The turnover of companies in this business sector since 2013 is continuously increasing by three to four percent a year, partly due to the strong growth in exports of Croatian companies, and analysts expect similar growth rates in the coming years.
The Croatian ICT sector in 2016 achieved sales revenues of over 32 billion kunas (about 4.3 billion euros), which is 3.5% more than in the previous one, shows research conducted by the Bisnode consultancy firm for the Croatian Employers’ Association . The revenue of this branch increased by almost 12% compared to 2013.
Of this, most of the waste is to telecommunication service providers, whose turnover amounts to HRK 13.1 billion (most important are companies, among others: HT, VIPNet, Tele2, Optima, Iskon). Next came software producers with HRK 7.7 billion (Span, APIS, Comping, Asseco) and computer and computer peripherals with around 4.0 billion (M San Group, King ICT, Microline, Links, Comtel and others).
Other important branches include the production of 2 billion Kuna Communications Equipment (Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Siemens Convergence Creators, RIZ), wholesale of IT hardware and software totaling 1.2 billion (Eurotrade, Macro-Micro Group, HSM Informatics, BCC Services) And data processing, hosting and the like with 1.1 billion kuna (Mercury Processing, Infobip, Erste Group IT, HP Production, VIP-Data, Google Croatia).
HUP representatives point out that growth should first of all be thanked for the successful export activities of Croatian IT companies. Croatian IT sector revenues in 2016 amounted to nearly HRK 6.1 billion, which is why they accounted for more than 19% of total revenues. Growth in 2015 increased by 15.5%, compared to 2013 (HRK 4.2 billion) by as much as 45%. In the segment of software and programming services, the share of imports was up by 31 percent, according to HUP experts.
On the other hand, the growth of the foreign market was considerably weaker. Revenues in 2016 increased only by 1.1% compared to the previous year and 6.5% in comparison to 2013. This shows that digitization of the economy in Croatia is not accelerating but stagnating, the HUP experts say.
