Luka Modrić named 3rd best playmaker of the decade

The International Institute of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has named Croatia captain, Luka Modrić, the third best playmaker of the decade – 2011 – 2020.

Lionel Messi, winner of the annual playmaker of the year award in 2015, 2017, 2017 and 2019, also second in 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2020, was ranked the world’s best playmaker of the decade.

Second in the ranking was Andres Iniesta with Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić third.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos were fourth and fifth respectively.

Modrić won the award for the best playmaker in the IFFHS annual selection in 2018.

IFFHS took in consideration the TOP 20 of each yearly ranking of the award and allocated points to each place – 20 points for the best playmaker, 19 points for second, 18 for third and so on. Adding the points from the individual years provided them with the world ranking for the decade.

Messi scored 174 points, Andres Iniesta 127, and Modrić 113 points.
