Three Seas Initiative Parliamentary Summit in Zagreb

The Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Parliamentary Summit entitled “Strengthening the Three Seas Initiative: Vision, Responsibility, Partnership” is taking place in Zagreb. The summit brings together the presidents and vice-presidents of the parliaments of the member states, associated countries and strategic partners of the initiative, as well as special guests.

After a formal welcome dinner for the heads of national parliamentary delegations at the Esplanade Hotel, hosted by the President of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković, the plenary session of the summit will be held on the second day at the National and University Library in Zagreb, where the priorities and future projects of the Initiative will be discussed.

The Three Seas Initiative was created as an informal political platform of 13 Central and Eastern European countries, members of the European Union, located between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas. It was established in 2015 at the initiative of Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Polish President Andrzej Duda, with the aim of strengthening transport, energy and digital infrastructure and connecting the North-South within the EU.

The initiative’s members are Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary. The area of the initiative’s member states covers 28% of the EU’s territory and 22% of the population, while accounting for only about 10% of GDP, which indicates a large space for development and economic growth through the construction of efficient transport corridors and the modernization of infrastructure.
