Italian-Croatian Chamber of Economy: What happens when we combine wine and chocolate? Magic!

The Italian-Croatian Chamber of Economy in Zagreb,  held the “Rosso e Cioccolato” fair on November 7, 2022 at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb, where the main goal was to strengthen and improve business relations between Tuscan wine producers and the Croatian wine sector. They tried to include producers, distributors, wine experts and the sector “HORECA”, and create new business opportunities between the two sectors.

Given that both chocolate and wine are extremely rich and complex by themselves, their combination can produce an incredible symphony of aromas and tastes on your palate. Cocoa and red wine are rich sources of antioxidants, so why not enjoy their excellent combination?

It is already well known that wine and chocolate are a perfect match for the palate and the soul, but sometimes it takes a lot of knowledge and practice to make the combination perfect. Oenologists and gastronomes agree, wine and chocolate match in their sweetness and bitterness. For example, dark chocolate with a large proportion of cocoa goes well with strong red wines, and the Italian Tuscany region is rich in such varieties.

Tuscan wines are specific in terms of taste and smell, with a strong fruity note and they go well with game, cheese and, of course, dark chocolate.

The Italian-Croatian Chamber of Economy in Zagreb opened the fair with a presentation of the history of Tuscan wines and chocolate through the history of Kraš. In addition to tastings, producers of Italian wine and chocolate presented themselves to the guests through a Master Show of pairing wine and desserts by pastry chef and sommelier Ivana Žabjačan, who made special biscuits for this occasion that were tasted in combination with two different types of wine.
