The National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria

The National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria was celebrated on the 6th of March at Palaca Dverze Hall in Zagreb. The Embassy organized a reception, attended by members of the government, parliament and the Presidential administration, heads of diplomatic missions in Zagreb, representatives of business, central and local administration, scientific, cultural and public organizations and the Bulgarian national minority in Croatia.

 

In her speech Ambassador Tanya Dimitrova underlinded the importance of that National Day as of special and emotional significance to Bulgaria which is currently holding for the first time the rotational Presidency of the Council of the EU. She pointed out that it clearly demonstrated the whole embodiment of the importance of the national courage, dedication and will to grow and prove ourselves as worthy of the confidence and faith we have been entrusted with to lead the EU through the challenges and tribulations that may face us. She expressed her hope that over the next four months the friends and partners of Bulgaria will get to know more of its multiple faces– the good student, the strong economic performer, the model for ethnic tolerance. Ambassador Dimitrova stressed that the Europe of tomorrow will be what we make it today and thus the Bulgarian Presidency is firmly committed to do every possible effort to build a stronger, more secure and more solidary European Union and to find concrete solutions to concrete issues.

Ambassador Tanya Dimitrova awarded certificates of recognition for the successful cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Zagreb and the extremely valuable contribution to the dynamically developing bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Croatia in the field of culture and education to Acad. Paveo Rudanq Secretary General of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts , Mr. Stjepan Sucic, Deputy Chairman of Matitza Hrvatska, Mr. Rashko Ivanov, Chairman of the Bulgarian National Minority in Croatia, and Mrs. Diana Glasnova, chief editor of Rodna Rech, the Bulgarian magazine published in Zagreb.

Academic Rudan expressed his deep appreciation for that valuable recognition of his personal and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts determination to further deepen and broaden the existing intensive cooperation between the two countries. He pointed out that Josip Juraj Strossmayer has established the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts for the benefit of all Southern Slav nations including the Bulgarians and therefore his successors continue his work by implementing various project and thus upholding the longstanding friendship and cooperation with Bulgaria. In this context, he expressed the gratitude of HAZU of the annual tribute Ambassador Dimitrova pays in the framework of the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the J.J. Strossmayer and Dr. Fr. Racki’s monuments at HAZU.
